Gemini exporter: save a Gemini conversation as a file

Saving a Gemini conversation as a file you can keep

Gemini has no per-conversation download button. “Save to Drive” keeps a Docs copy inside Google’s ecosystem; sharing a link keeps it online; and Google Takeout exports everything at once as data. None of those gives you a formatted PDF or Markdown file for the thread on your screen.

ModelAny adds that missing button. Open the Gemini conversation, click the tab on the right edge of the page, and choose PDF, Word or Markdown. The file is built in your browser and saved locally.

The routes that exist, and what each one gives you

  • ModelAny right-edge tab — PDF, Word or Markdown from the open conversation; generated locally in your browser; works on ChatGPT, Claude and DeepSeek with the same steps.
  • Copy and paste — select the conversation text and paste it into a document. Free and instant, but you lose speaker labels, lists and code formatting, and long threads are painful to select cleanly.
  • Google Takeout — exports your Gemini activity in bulk as data files. Complete, but not a formatted document, and not per-conversation.
  • Share link — creates a live URL. Useful for sending to someone, but it is not a file you own, and it stops working if you revoke it or the conversation is deleted.

Export a Gemini conversation step by step

  1. Open the conversation on gemini.google.com and scroll to the top so the whole thread has rendered
  2. Click the ModelAny tab on the right edge of the page
  3. Choose PDF for a shareable, printable file; Word if it is going into a document workflow; Markdown for Notion, Obsidian or a repository
  4. The file downloads to your computer—no upload, no share link to revoke later

What the exported file keeps

The export preserves the structure that makes a transcript reusable: every turn in order, labeled by speaker, with headings, lists and code blocks intact. It arrives paginated for A4 or Letter and prints predictably.

What it cannot guarantee is anything the page itself does not expose—generated images, uploaded attachments or interactive elements may be omitted or noted as a placeholder. If a thread matters for its visuals rather than its text, keep the share link as well.

Local file, not another copy in the cloud

Google Takeout and share links both create additional copies on Google’s servers. A browser-generated export does not—the conversation moves from the page to your disk and nowhere else. On the Gemini web app there is no ModelAny server in the path.

Frequently asked questions

Can I export a Gemini conversation to PDF?

Yes. With ModelAny installed, open the conversation, click the right-edge tab and choose PDF. Without an extension, the nearest option is copying the text into a document or using Google Takeout, which exports data rather than a formatted per-conversation file.

Does Google Takeout give me the same thing?

No. Takeout exports your Gemini activity in bulk as data files. It is thorough but arrives as raw data, not as a formatted PDF or Markdown file for one conversation.

Will the export include generated images?

Text, headings, lists and code blocks carry over. Generated images and uploaded attachments may be omitted or represented as a placeholder, depending on what the page exposes.

Does this work on Gemini as well as ChatGPT and Claude?

Yes. ModelAny uses the same right-edge toolbar on every supported AI site, so the steps are identical across Gemini, ChatGPT, Claude, DeepSeek, Kimi and the other supported providers.
